Beginning this July, Save the Children Philippines is looking for volunteers who can make a difference by being heroes for children while staying safe at home!
The international child rights organization has launched its latest campaign “Heroes from Home” where everyone is enjoined to help raise funds and give hope to the vulnerable, marginalized, and deprived Filipino children who need healthcare, education, and protection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Atty. Alberto Muyot, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Philippines, said the present health crisis continues to threaten the lives of millions of people globally.
“Filipino children have been suffering from extreme hunger and undernutrition while a significant number of learners may not be able to return to school or take part in online classes as their parents or guardians face loss of income and livelihood,” said Muyot.
Save the Children Philippines offers an opportunity for people to start their own fundraiser through SimplyGiving.com, an online fundraising site where individuals or groups can donate and help the organization’s COVID-19 response initiatives for children.
Through SimplyGiving.com, cancelled events can be turned into a fundraiser. Birthdays, reunions, and other celebrations can be made more meaningful by donating what could’ve been spent for food, drinks, and gifts.
On the other hand, individuals, families, friends, and colleagues can pledge an amount for a purpose through SimplyGiving.com for every fun and creative challenges they do and post online.
Actress and Save the Children Philippines Ambassador Ria Atayde said the pandemic has opened up opportunities for us to help even in the comfort of our own home.
“I signed up to be a Hero from Home because the children need our support now more than ever as they continue to face challenges in these trying times” Atayde said.
Save the Children Philippines has provided lifesaving support to 11,000 children and their families, including frontliners, by distributing personal protective equipment (PPEs), food items, hygiene kits and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials in Caloocan, Navotas, Malabon, Cavite, Batangas, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and areas where they are needed the most.
The organization has also been implementing Project ARAL (Access to Resources for Alternative Learning) to help children from low income families, those with disabilities, and those who face risks of being left out in school by providing innovative learning modalities. This complements the Basic Education Learning and Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) of the Department of Education (DepEd).
“There are still so many children who need our love and support and I really hope that everyone can rise up to the challenge and be a Hero from Home,” said Atayde.
