#OdettePH Response: SHEIN Philippines

SHEIN supports Save the Children with P2 Million donation

Type: Story

Responding to the continuing needs of children and families heavily impacted by Super Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai), global fashion retailer SHEIN partners with Save the Children to support its ongoing humanitarian relief and rehabilitation efforts in Visayas and Mindanao.

SHEIN donated PhP 2 Million in cash to provide more than 1,000 children and 500 families with relief and early recovery assistance through education, protection, and livelihood support.

Save the Children Philippines Ambassador Ria Atayde expressed her gratitude and appreciation to SHEIN, and cited the importance of the donations to the relief and rehabilitation programs. “These donations will help many children and families by providing food, shelter, education, healthcare, clean water and sanitation,” Atayde said.

The strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines in 2021, Odette disrupted the lives of more than 6 million people, 1.8 million families, of which around 1.8 million are children, in 11 regions and 38 provinces. It damaged more than 1.3 million houses, 2,845 schools, displaced more than 300 thousand individuals, and claimed at least 400 lives, around 70 of which are children.

“We are thrilled to be working with SHEIN through our ongoing humanitarian work for the families and children affected by Typhoon Odette. Together with SHEIN, we will work to ensure that children in the Philippines will have access to basic quality services and that their rights are protected,” said Benjamin Delfin, Program Implementations Director of Save the Children Philippines.

In addition, SHEIN donated over 5,700 pieces of clothing to children to replace their clothes that were washed out by the typhoon and as part of the mental health and psychosocial support provided to help restore their confidence and sense of normalcy. SHEIN also joined Save the Children’s Typhoon Odette Response on February 23 and 24, 2022 to distribute clothes to the children in Getafe, Bohol.

“As a result of Typhoon Odette’s impact on the Philippines in December 2021, SHEIN made an immediate donation to Save the Children to help and support communities impacted by Typhoon Odette. We are hopeful that the SHEIN Cares Fund will positively affect the recovery and restoration of the livelihoods of those affected.” said SHEIN’s spokesperson.

“We appreciate SHEIN’s commitment to Save the Children’s mission of assisting children and their families in times of crisis,” said Xia Vigor, Save the Children Philippines Ambassador.

SHEIN vows to continue helping Save the Children to support underserved communities and children most impacted by inequality and discrimination.
